Chestnut Class Homework

Children Playing

Children are expected to complete regular home learning activities each week which includes Literacy and Maths, set from their CGP Books provided by the school. We encourage parental involvement with this as it is a lovely opportunity to share in your child’s learning.  If you wish, parents can purchase additional CGP Books to extend their children’s learning at home.

Homework will include:

  • A weekly spelling test, which will take place on a Monday morning
  • Math & Literacy homework every week (mainly linked to the children’s learning in that particular week), which will go out on a Wednesday and must be handed back in by the following Monday
  • Regular reading-a minimum of 3 reads a week. However, there is the opportunity to win Bronze, Silver & Gold Certificates in the Home Reading Challenge if you choose to do more than this!

We still benefit from parents coming in to school and hearing readers, even in Year 5 & 6, so volunteers would be very welcome and much appreciated.

It is advisable that children have their PE kits in school at all times, and this needs to include suitable outdoor Sports Kit. Year 4 children participate in Swimming during the Summer Term.

In Years 5 & 6 we expect children to have their own pencil cases containing pencils, a ruler, a rubber and a sharpener. This can include felt tips or coloured crayons.

Children will be able to earn a pen licence and we will provide a handwriting pen for this.
